Good evening Warrior Families,
I am excited to be the new Director at New Dimensions School! The students, teachers, parents and our community have been nothing short of AMAZING! From day one and with every interaction, it has been positive.
I was born in Morganton and I have returned home after 28 years. I have 3 daughters and when they were younger, they also attended a charter school. I taught middle school initially, and then served as a Principal at several elementary and middle schools. All 4 of my college degrees are from UNC-Charlotte. Prior to Morganton, I lived in the Charlotte / Concord area.
In all honesty, New Dimensions is the greatest school that I have ever worked in, and this is my 25th year in Education. Everyone on our campus is not only focused on teaching and learning, but they are also focused on building meaningful relationships with our students and partnering with all stakeholders to do what is best for each and every child. If you ever have a question or need support in any manner, please contact your child’s teacher or anyone on our campus. GO WARRIORS!

Good morning Warrior Families,
We are grateful to you, our families, for continuing to make NDS your school of choice, delivering our biggest lottery to date, and helping us share the great things happening every single day.
It is with excitement we are now able to share that Dr. James Davis has accepted the position of director at New Dimensions. Dr. Davis has a wealth of experience in all aspects of school leadership and instruction. He also has extensive experience with higher education, public speaking, and sent his children through charter schools. Dr. Davis is returning to his hometown of Morganton to help us continue the great work already completed and help us further the mission of New Dimensions School to nurture every student, every day to develop strong character, academic excellence, and good citizenship.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our interim team appointed by Dr. Burleson. Lisa Ervin, Kelly Lookadoo, Casey Kinard, Lisa Swartz, and Misty Dillingham all accepted additional duties from the director position to share during the hiring process so the board could avoid rushing a decision and ensure all interested, referred, and qualified candidates were able to meet with us.
We want to especially thank Ms. Ervin for her passion and dedication to our students. Her gifts shine in all things she does for this school, and we are grateful to have her on our team. She has graciously agreed to expand her role to Director of Exceptional and Academically/Intellectually Gifted Students, beginning with the 2023-24 school year.
Dr. Davis will join our administrative team before the end of the school year to start learning from our processes, talking to staff, and learning how New Dimensions functions daily.
We know many of you are eager to learn more about Dr. Davis. We will follow up after Spring Break with specifics on when you will have that opportunity to meet him and to ask questions you may have.
Thank you all for being a part of the Warrior family.

NDS Warrior Family,
Over the last 40 years I have been one of the most fortunate people alive. I have been given the opportunity to work with wonderful people and live in the greatest place in the world. There is no doubt that Burke and Avery Counties are blessed with some of the finest people anywhere in our country.
Over the last three and a half years I am very proud of what we have been able to accomplish together for the students of New Dimensions. Our school has grown numerically, and the students have progressed academically. We have also assembled a wonderful staff who care about student success and growth. Our school has developed a positive reputation in our community and is setting the standard for academic excellence. New Dimensions is also getting attention statewide because of what we are doing for our students. Our school continues to do what is best for our students and boosts one of the most committed boards of any school system in the region. NDS has much to be proud of because of our wonderful students, supportive families, excellent staff, and supportive community.
I want to personally thank the NDS board, staff, students, and families for what you have done for me and my family, the support we have had, the prayers we felt, and the commitment you have made to our school over the last several years. I truly believe that God opens doors that He expects us to walk through. For me and my family I believe this is now the case. At this time in my life and after much prayerful consideration, I have decided to retire from full time work. I am resigning my position as the Director of New Dimensions: A Public Charter School as of December 31, 2022. The bottom line is that it is time to concentrate on being a husband, father, and grandfather.
I want to thank everyone involved with NDS for the lessons you have taught me over the last several years, and for the opportunities to work with our students, staff, and families. Those lessons I learned and experiences we shared will be tremendous assets as I move to another phase in my life. Please know that you remain in my prayers, and thoughts as I hope we remain in yours. Never forget what we have been able to do together and remember the foundation that has been laid. I especially want to thank the NDS Board for providing me the opportunity to experience a new phase in my career.
I encourage you to do all possible to focus on the needs of our students; to work collaboratively with everyone in our Warrior community, and to continue to do all possible to move New Dimensions forward.
Please know I wish you the very best and I look forward to hearing of your many future successes. As I am sure you know, the NDS board will work to find the very best director to move our school to the next level.
Sincerely yours,
David Burleson
Director

Good Afternoon Warrior Families:
Due to predicted heavy rains and high winds that have the potential to create hazardous road conditions in the morning along with the potential of power outages, New Dimensions will be closed for all face to face instruction on Friday, September 30. This will be a remote learning day for students as they work on packets that were sent home with them today. Staff will be emailing students with other possible learning opportunities. There will be no school day care provided.
Thank you so much for your continued care for our students and school! We want to make sure everyone stays safe tomorrow.
