Good Afternoon Warrior Families,

We are very proud of how seriously our students have taken the end of course tests. Our students in grades 3 to 8 completed the reading EOG today and will take the math EOG tomorrow. Be sure to encourage your child(ren) to get plenty of sleep tonight. A breakfast biscuit will be provided in the morning along with juice.

As you know, the weather is posing problems and forcing schedule changes for our field day activities. Currently, Wednesday, May 25 gives us the best chance of being outside. After much discussion and watching the forecast, the plan is to do all field day activities on Wednesday, May 25 with kindergarten in the morning and grades 3 to 5 after testing is completed. Here is the schedule

NEW DIMENSIONS FIELD DAY

K-2nd Grades May 25th, 2022 (8:30 to 11:30)

3rd-4th Grades May 25th, 2022 (12:30 to 3)

5th Grade May 25th, 2022 (1 to 3)

  • Inflatables will be on the field for the entire day. At least two will be water slides so please send clothing to change into and send a towel

PARENTS, WE NEED YOUR HELP

We are asking for VOLUNTEERS. Without our parent involvement these events will not be possible.

Please email Coach Brooks at mbrooks@ndschool.org if you can help.

Students in grades K-2 may come dressed in a one-piece bathing suit underneath their clothing. We recommend athletic clothing or comfortable clothes for our Field Day Events.

A change of clothes is recommended as well. It is not mandatory for kids to wear a bathing suit.

Sandals, water shoes, NO BARE FEET-students barefoot will not be permitted during Field Day Events.

We recommend students to wear sunscreen and hats during our events.

Students are permitted to bring a towel. The school is not responsible if any items are lost.

Miscellaneous: The ICEE Man will still be set up Wednesday & Thursday, May 25 & 26 from 11am-1pm, $2 each. ICEEs will be on the athletic field on Wednesday and near the patio on Thursday.

Thank you in advance to help make Field Day a success!

If you have any questions, please text Coach Brooks at (813) 215-4879 or email at mbrooks@ndschool.org.

Hello Warrior Families,

We're in our final 24 hours of the Virtual Walk-A-Thon registration window. Remember, it's only $35 to register each student and/or family member. That fee provides you with a Virtual Walk-A-Thon t-shirt to wear to our Walk-A-Thon celebration, but best of all, it helps support the school we all love so much! Also, the classroom with the most registrations will win a pizza party and a special Icee Day! On Friday, April 29 there will be fun events during the school day for students and a fun school wide family celebration from 4-7 p.m. that evening.

Donations and sponsorships will continue to be accepted through Thursday, April 14. We are less than $2,000 away from reaching our goal!

You can use our PayPal link - paypal.me/ndschool to make a donation by credit card and note the payment as NDS Virtual Walk-A-Thon donation or mail a donation check to New Dimensions Charter School - 550 Lenoir Road, Morganton, NC 28655. You can associate your donation to a particular student by adding that information to the PayPal note or check description. Additionally, registration fees, sponsorships and donations can be paid for by cash, check or credit card at the school. Virtual Walk-A-Thon registrations for student(s) and family members continue through Friday, April 8. Sponsorships and donations will be taken through Thursday, April 14. Good morning Warrior Families,

We have three days left in our Virtual Walk-A-Thon registration window. As week three finished up on Monday, we ended with our largest number of registrations/sponsorships/donations, in both number and dollars, to date. We hope to finish our final week with even more! We are approximately $5,000 away from reaching our goal.

Our week three 1st place classroom for total registrations and sponsorships combined is:

Kindergarten - Bishop

Remember, every gift, of every size, is important to New Dimensions and provides vital support for our students. Gifts of all sizes add up to a truly meaningful sum for the school, and every gift puts us one step closer to our goal of $30,000. If you wish to contribute any amount below the registration fee and/or sponsorship levels and are not interested in participating in the walk or having a t-shirt, we welcome those donations, too. Please feel free to use our PayPal link - paypal.me/ndschool to make a donation by credit card and note the payment as NDS Virtual Walk-A-Thon donation or mail a donation check to New Dimensions Charter School - 550 Lenoir Road, Morganton, NC 28655. You can find all the information you need at - ndschool.org/giving/virtual-walk-a-thon.

Hello NDS Families,

Here is your update for the coming week.

Monday, April 4 will be a special NDS dress down day to represent your favorite college team or team colors to prepare for the National Championship on Monday night. Wear your favorite college jersey or school colors.

Remember to register your student(s) and family members for our virtual walk-a-thon until April 8. Sponsorships will be taken through April 14. You can find all the information you need at - ndschool.org/giving/virtual-walk-a-thon. You can complete the online registration form or download the registration form to complete and send to NDS. Sponsorship forms can also be downloaded from our website and hard copies were sent home last week. We're excited to see how our Warriors will rally together, along with our community partners/sponsors, and achieve our goal of $30,000 to help fund our ropes course, an additional GaGa Pit, an outdoor volleyball court, picnic tables, and additional benches for outdoor classrooms.

Starting next week, through a grant from the NCDPI, Dr. Tina Brookes will be with our Warrior family teaching Brain Gym to our students during our Warrior times. The Brain Gym program addresses and incorporates the often overlooked physical components of learning — visual, auditory, motor, and stress management skills. The Brain Gym® program is made up of whole brain activities tied to physical movement. This will provide your students the opportunity to get up and move while stimulating the brain.

As a former school guidance counselor, Dr. Brookes will be with us in the future to do group activities concerning kindness, self-discipline and other topics to help our students be as successful as possible.

Please take a few moments to read our April NDS newsletter for the latest news, announcements and important upcoming dates.

We are entering our last week of our school's annual effort to help raise awareness and collect donations for the American Heart Association. The last day for New Dimensions collecting money for the American Heart Association has been EXTENDED until April 7th. Please continue to help our school meet our goal of $4,000 to give to the American Heart Association to ultimately help those in need. As of April 3rd, our school has a little over $3,400 collected for this worthy cause. We appreciate any last donations we can get to help those in need of valuable research to fight heart disease. Thank you to all who have already donated and/or helped to raise awareness. If you have any questions, please let Coach Brooks know at mbrooks@ndschool.org

Our next Warrior Wednesday is April 6.

Registration for the YMCA’s summer camp has opened. Go online at www.ymcacv.org to register, or email hollien@ymcacv.org for questions, or more information.

Currently, about 10% of our students are in quarantine with 5% being positive for the virus. Several of our staff have also been required to quarantine but thankfully our staff has worked hard to continue classroom instruction. Please know how much I appreciate your support as we work to keep our Warrior family healthy and safe.

Feel free to contact me at dburleson@ndschool.org for any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school.

You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Hello Warrior Families,

Tomorrow is November 30 and 1BurkeGives, an official day of giving for the nonprofits in our area. We need your help, and we’ve included a few easy ways that you can support us. We are raising funds to support our school lunch program for families who need a little help. Last year, we raised $2,100!

Share and share alike. Online days of giving are successful because of our own networks. Help us grow our network by sharing our school's link in email, text messages, or on social media. https://www.1burkegives.org/organizations/new-dimensions-a-public-charter-school

Let's try for a bonus prize! If we can have the most donations (not the highest total, just the most people participating) between 8 pm - 10 pm on November 30, we will win an additional $500!! Set a calendar reminder.

Let's show Burke County what our Warrior Family can do! Thank you for all of your support!

The Burke County Health Department has requested that we assist them with a survey regarding a potential pediatric COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic.

The goal with this survey is to determine interest of a pediatric vaccine clinic and potential success. They have not yet determined when or where a vaccine clinic would be held, but it will most likely take place within the current month.

The survey is completely voluntary and they appreciate your participation.

Hello NDS Families,

Please see exciting information below regarding our NDS Book Fair from Adventure Bound Books owner, Angela Shore. The book fair starts tomorrow, Tuesday, October 26th and goes through Saturday, October 30th. They have scheduled special events this week and have extended hours for NDS-please see times listed below. Share this information with your families and friends. There is no school on Friday, October 29th, so this would be a great time to visit and shop the book fair!

It’s Book Fair Week and Adventure Bound Books is thrilled to host New Dimensions for this time-honored school tradition. We’ve been hard at work stocking a variety of books and gifts for your students, families, friends, and neighbors. We’ve also planned some amazing events for the week for students and adults!

You are encouraged to share information about the events, about special Book Fair hours, and reminders that the more people your community sends to the bookstore to shop, the more successful your Book Fair fundraiser will be. Feel free to copy and paste this email and send it to your families, post it on your social media accounts, or send it home as reminders.

Teacher Wish Lists will be available for families who wish to stock a classroom’s library with books educators would love to have for their students. Families will have the option to add their name to the inside of purchased and donated books so teachers know who the book is from when they receive it. We will collect books throughout the week and deliver them at the end of the book fair to NDS (unless a family prefers to deliver the book themselves).

Adventure Bound Books will have extended hours this week (October 26th - 30th):

Tuesday - Friday: 11am - 2:45pm and 3:45pm - 6pm (that is, 11am-6pm except for 2:45-3:45pm when I pick my kids up from school)

Saturday: 11am - 6pm

There are virtual evening events scheduled at 7pm on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday for even more bookish fun throughout the week, plus Story Time on Saturday before store hours. For each NDS family who attends an event, and mentions the book fair in the event chat comments, Adventure Bound Books will add $1 to the week’s fundraising totals!! (This is a great way for families who may not be able to purchase products during the Book Fair, or who may not be able to attend the Book Fair in person, to support the school’s fundraising efforts from home for free.)

Wednesday, October 27th @ 7pm - Virtual Author Event with Steven Banks

You may be familiar with his work with Nickelodeon on shows including SpongeBob Square Pants and Jimmy Neutron, and now you learn more about his young readers’ series Middle School Bites, the perfect spooky season read for ages 9 - 12 years old. This is a free event but registration is required.

Thursday, October 28th @ 7pm - Virtual Author Event with Melanie Moyer

This one is just for adults as we welcome Melanie to discuss her debut adult science fiction novel The Original Glitch. In it, Moyer retells the story of Frankenstein in a contemporary setting featuring a grad student left to deal with his advisor's sociopathic AI creation in the aftermath of her death.
